We Begin Our Second Phase of Biodiversity Monitoring, Tourism, and Research

claudiajrodriguezb

At El Escondite Nature Reserve, we continue our commitment to conservation and biodiversity preservation. We are proud to announce the start of our second phase of biodiversity monitoring, a project aimed at identifying the species that inhabit our reserve while contributing to scientific research and the development of sustainable tourism.

First Phase: Monitoring with Awake BIO

During the first phase, conducted in collaboration with Awake BIO, we made significant progress by cataloging and documenting the rich diversity of species living in El Escondite. This effort included the use of camera traps and acoustic monitoring, which allowed us to observe and record a wide range of fauna, especially birds and mammals. The result was a detailed species catalog, which you can view on our website.

Second Phase: Expanding Horizons with Savimbo

Now, in this new stage, we have taken a step further thanks to our partnership with Savimbo, a platform focused on supporting conservation through carbon credit sales. This support will allow us to continue and expand our monitoring efforts, and we’ve already identified new species, such as the Red Brocket Deer and the White-tailed Deer.

New Discoveries and Future Goals

With this second phase, we aim to discover even more species and deepen our understanding of the reserve’s ecosystem. Biodiversity monitoring is essential not only for ecological tourism but also for ensuring the preservation of habitats and contributing to the fight against climate change through forest protection and carbon sequestration.

The Role of Tourism in Conservation

This project has both environmental and tourism-related impacts, playing a critical role in the sustainability of nature-based tourism in our reserve. Biodiversity monitoring enriches the experience of visitors who come to observe birds and wildlife, while reinforcing our active commitment to conservation. Every visit helps fund these conservation efforts and allows us to continue initiatives that protect biodiversity.

Conservation and Community Involvement

Support from initiatives like Savimbo is key to the continuity of our conservation projects. Additionally, we will involve the local community and visitors in these actions, creating a collaborative network that allows us to move forward together toward the protection of our natural environment.

We invite you to follow the progress of this project and to actively participate in the preservation of our reserve, whether by visiting or supporting our conservation initiatives. Together, we can protect this biodiversity sanctuary for future generations!
